Wisdom Tooth Removal

Removal of your wisdom teeth may be necessary if they have not come through correctly, are starting to decay, are infected, are painful, or starting to impact your surrounding teeth. You may also want to remove them now to prevent these issues occurring in the future.

Ó

Protect Your Teeth & Avoid Pain

Once inflammation sets in, it’s very difficult to alleviate, and it easily spreads to surrounding areas. In addition, when a tooth is partially impacted, a separation between it and the gums creates a breeding ground for bacteria, which dramatically increases the risk of infection.

T

A Better Smile

When wisdom teeth erupt, they try to enter an already crowded area. With little room to move into, neighboring teeth are often pushed aside, resulting in misalignment. Whether your beautiful smile is thanks to braces or genetics, wisdom teeth can undo a straight smile as well as completely unravel years of dental work.

z

Easier To Maintain Good Dental Hygiene

If you experience no pain or obvious complications with the arrival of your wisdom teeth, your future dental hygiene may still be at risk. More than likely, space is at a minimum, and it can be difficult to properly brush and floss around a wisdom tooth.

Wisdom teeth can do more than overcrowd their neighbors. In fact, they can damage the adjacent second molars by contributing to bone loss and cavities.

An impacted wisdom tooth can also lead to tiny tumours or cysts in the jawbone. These can grow quite large and are best removed early to prevent problems.

"I had my impacted wisdom teeth removed by Dr Han Choi a couple of weeks ago. I could not have been happier with the whole experience.

I was extremely anxious about the procedure but it was a breeze and I had no swelling afterwards. Great work!"

Types of Wisdom Teeth Extractions

Lower Wisdom Teeth Removal

Impacted and non-impacted wisdom teeth removal could be recommended by your dentist. Lower wisdom teeth are impacted more frequently, and can be more complex than an upper jaw removal. We are able to provide sedation and GA for these procedures.

Upper Wisdom Teeth Removal

A wisdom tooth extraction in the upper jaw is typically a simpler procedure. Upper removal procedures are typically done under local anaesthesia. Sedation and GA is also an option.

Wisdom Teeth Removal for Soft Tissue Impaction

In these cases, the wisdom teeth have erupted above the jawline but are still cloaked by gum tissue. Oral surgeons usually call for wisdom tooth removal in such cases as this can cause a range of problems including pain and infection.

Wisdom Tooth Removal for Partial Impactions

When there is only room for the wisdom tooth to erupt partially, only some of the crown will be visible. In this case, the rest of the tooth would remain unerupted in the jaw, causing pain as well as creating potential for cavities and infection.

Common Problems Caused by Wisdom Teeth

Cysts

A sac of tissue develops around each wisdom tooth. If the wisdom tooth is impacted, then the sac can fill with fluid with forms an oral cyst. If there is swelling or pain, it could mean that it has become infected and lead to an abscess.

Damage to Adjacent Teeth

A wisdom tooth that doesn’t erupt as it should can result in gaps where food particles can get stuck. This leads to cavities and tooth decay in adjacent teeth as well. Or, they can overcrowd the jaw, causing pain and the placement of existing teeth to become uneven.

Preventing Eruption of Other Teeth

A wisdom tooth can sometimes position itself over the molar tooth next to it. When the molar is prevented from erupting normally, the crooked arrangement can lead to a poor bite and may even affect hygiene.

Ulcers on the Cheek

If a wisdom tooth has erupted at an angle and is constantly rubbing against the inner cheek, it could result in an ulcer at that spot. It could also cause discomfort in chewing. This, aside from being painful, can create an infection-prone area.
